Daily Pic: Four of Richard Lippold’s “Variations within a Sphere,” from 1947, in a vitrine at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Some of Lippold’s later works can operate as slick kitsch from the Space Age, but these ones have a modesty and almost humor that counteracts their technophilia. They feel almost as though they might have been satirical drawings of Lippolds done by Saul Steinberg.
